History of DIET Jagatsinghpur

A Legacy of Excellence: History of DIET, Jagatsinghpur
The District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Jagatsinghpur, has a remarkable history that reflects its unwavering commitment to shaping the future of education in Odisha. It began its journey in 1973 as the Secondary Training School, Jagatsinghpur, with the sole purpose of training aspiring educators to meet the district’s growing demand for qualified teachers.

In 2005, under Government of Odisha’s letter No. 10701 dated 25/05/2005, the institution was elevated to the status of DIET. This transformation was pivotal, positioning it as a cornerstone for elementary teacher education in Jagatsinghpur. Initially operating within the premises of Government Girls’ High School, Jagatsinghpur, DIET offered a platform for robust teacher training programs aimed at fostering academic and professional excellence.

By February 2013, the institution shifted its base to Markandapur, operating temporarily from the Ladies’ Hostel Building. Soon after, in March 2014, DIET Jagatsinghpur established its own administrative building, designed to support its expanding programs and goals. With the launch of the two-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) program, the institute has maintained an annual intake of 100 students, playing a crucial role in addressing the district’s educational needs.
As the sole teacher education institute in Jagatsinghpur, DIET extends beyond pre-service training to in-service professional development, focusing on capacity building for educators through workshops, action research, and community-centric initiatives. Key areas of focus include Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN), Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), monograde and multigrade teaching strategies, and state-driven initiatives like Building Blocks and National Achievement Survey (NAS).
DIET Jagatsinghpur actively contributes to the implementation of national policies such as NEP 2020, aligning its vision with the goal of holistic and inclusive education. Through collaborations with SCERT Odisha and OSEPA, it continues to enhance the quality of education across schools in the district.
Situated amidst the serene surroundings of Markandapur, DIET provides a nurturing environment that inspires both learners and educators. With its rich legacy and modern infrastructure, the institute stands as a beacon of excellence, shaping competent teachers who lead transformative classroom practices and drive positive societal change.
From its modest beginnings to its current stature, DIET Jagatsinghpur’s journey is a testament to the dedication of its faculty, the support of the community, and the shared vision of creating a brighter future through education.
